Product Details:

Portrait of Horatio Gates by Gilbert Stuart, painted around 1793–1794, is a striking depiction of the Revolutionary War general, housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In this work, Stuart portrays Gates in his Continental Army uniform as a major general, adorned with the gold medal awarded by Congress for his victory at the Battles of Saratoga in 1777. This portrait captures both the heroism of Saratoga and the complexity of Gates’ legacy, including his controversial role in the Conway Cabal and his defeat at Camden, presenting him as a celebrated yet debated figure of the American Revolution.
