This is a reproduction of What the Stars and Stripes Mean illustration published in 1896 by the Century Co. and issued by the St. Thomas Magazine. The stripes represent the thirteen original states in the order of entering the Union. The stars represent all the states, the date upon each was one was entered into the union being indicated on the star.
