Product Details:

Washington Takes Leave of His Officers by H. E. Marshall depicts General George Washington bidding farewell to his officers at Fraunces Tavern in New York City on December 4, 1783. Washington is seen shaking hands with one of his officers, dressed in his Continental Army uniform. The mood is somber yet celebratory, as the officers had fought alongside Washington through many hard-fought battles, and now, with the war won, their leader is leaving his military command. The farewell took place after the British had evacuated New York, and the American victory was secured. This moment represents Washington's humility, leadership, and deep respect for his comrades-in-arms as he steps down from his position to return to civilian life, which would eventually lead to his presidency.
