The Ride of General Marion's Men by Alonzo Chappel is a depiction of a significant moment from the American Revolutionary War. General Francis Marion, known as the "Swamp Fox," was a master of guerrilla warfare, and his tactics were instrumental in disrupting British forces in the Southern theater of the war. Chappel's painting portrays Marion leading his men through the swamps of South Carolina, often under the cover of night.
