Attending the swearing in were Robert R. Livingston - The Chancellor of New York, who administered the oath of office to Washington; John Adams - the first Vice President of the United States; and members of the First Congress  - Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, Richard Henry Lee, Samuel Otis.
