Product Details:

The Citizens Corps of Wisconsin at South Mountain (1862) by H. Charles McBarron depicts a dramatic moment during the Battle of South Mountain, which took place on September 14, 1862, as part of the Maryland Campaign during the American Civil War. McBarron, known for his historically accurate and detailed military artwork, uses this piece to honor the valor and resilience of Wisconsin troops engaged in the conflict. The Battle of South Mountain was a precursor to the larger and more infamous Battle of Antietam. Union forces, under General George B. McClellan, clashed with Confederate troops commanded by General Robert E. Lee as the Union army sought to break through South Mountain's passes in pursuit of Lee's divided forces. The battle was significant for halting the Confederate advance into the North. The painting commemorates the contributions of Wisconsin soldiers in the Civil War, particularly their role in the Iron Brigade, which was one of the most celebrated units of the Union Army.
