Product Details:
"The Battle of Mill Creek (Mill Springs), Kentucky" by Alonzo Chappel depicts the Battle of Mill Springs, Kentucky, a Civil War battle fought on January 19, 1862. Mills Springs was an early Union victory under Brigadier General George H. Thomas against Confederate forces led by Brigadier General Felix K. Zollicoffer (later replaced by Major General George B. Crittenden). The battle occurred near Logan’s Crossroads, with Confederates attacking from their camp at Beech Grove. A pivotal moment was Zollicoffer’s death—he mistakenly rode into Union lines, thinking they were his own troops, and was shot by Colonel Speed S. Fry of the 4th Kentucky Infantry. The Confederates were eventually routed, abandoning supplies and retreating across the Cumberland River.
