Product Details:

The Battle of Harlem Heights by Alonzo Chappel depicts a pivotal moment during the American Revolutionary War, specifically the battle fought on September 16, 1776 in present-day Manhattan, New York. The battle was a morale-boosting victory for George Washington’s Continental Army after their earlier defeats in the New York Campaign. The battle started when American troops, including Thomas Knowlton’s Rangers, engaged British light infantry in a skirmish. Washington, recognizing an opportunity, reinforced his troops and launched a coordinated attack. After hours of fighting, the British were forced to retreat, marking the first significant offensive success for the Continental Army.
