Product Details:

The Battle of Fort Moultrie by John Blake White depicts the heroic defense of Fort Moultrie on June 28, 1776, during the American Revolutionary War. The battle took place on Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina, where Colonel William Moultrie and his outnumbered Patriot forces successfully repelled a British naval attack. Sergeant William Jasper is prominently featured as he valiantly replaces the fallen flag of South Carolina under heavy British cannon fire. When the fort’s flag was shot down, Jasper leaped over the parapet, retrieved it, and hoisted it back up, ensuring the defenders remained steadfast in the fight. His act of bravery became legendary and symbolized Patriot resilience. John Blake White’s work captures the intensity of the battle, with smoke-filled air, cannon fire, and determined American soldiers standing firm against British warships. The victory at Fort Moultrie was a crucial early triumph for the American cause, delaying British plans to seize Charleston and bolstering Patriot morale in the Southern colonies.
