Product Details:

The Attack on Rhode Island by Irwin John Bevan depicts the events of December 8th, 1776. A British Squadron under command of Commodore Sir Peter Parker consisting of HMS Chatam, HMS Preston, HMS Centrion, HMS Renown, and HMS Experiment with eight smaller vessels, convoying two brigades of British and two brigades of Hessian troops, in all 7,000 men, under General Clinton sailed into Narragansett Bay and landed in Newport. The British troops faced little resistance, as the American forces, under General William West, had already evacuated the town, knowing that they could not hold Newport against such a large, well-equipped force. Once the British forces landed, they quickly established control over the town and fortified it, turning Newport into a key British naval base for the remainder of the war.
