Product Details:
The American Soldier, 1819 by H. Charles McBarron Jr. depicts a scene of the military expeditions in the 1820's era. Major Stephen H. Long led a significant expedition in 1820, officially known as the Yellowstone Expedition or the Long Expedition, which explored the western United States between the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, extending to the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains. This was one of the earliest U.S. government-sponsored scientific explorations of the American West, following the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The expedition encountered tribes like the Pawnee, Cheyenne, and Arapaho, documenting their cultures but also noting tensions due to U.S. expansion.
