Product Details:

Storming of Fort Wagner by Kurz and Allison depicts the heroic assault on Fort Wagner during the Civil War. This event took place on July 18, 1863, and is particularly significant because it involved the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, one of the first African American regiments to fight for the Union. Though the Union forces did not capture the fort in this assault, the valor displayed by the 54th Massachusetts Regiment played a significant role in changing public perception of African American troops and bolstered the Union's resolve to recruit more African American soldiers.
