This is a unique composition of the painting Siege of Vicksburg - Assault on Fort Hill by Thure de Thulstrup, and The Map Illustrating the Operations of the U.S. Forces Against Vicksburg. The map is a detailed battlefield map showing the route the Union forces under General Grant took, and battles won along the way, to eventually surround Vicksburg in a successful 47 day siege.
