Product Details:

Retreat through the Jerseys by John Ward Dunsmore depicts a significant and somber moment from the American Revolutionary War, specifically during the Continental Army's retreat through New Jersey in late 1776. This event followed the disastrous loss of Fort Washington and the British capture of Fort Lee, forcing George Washington and his troops to retreat across New Jersey to Pennsylvania. The retreat through New Jersey was a low point for the Continental Army, marked by desertions, lack of supplies, and dwindling morale. Despite these challenges, Washington’s leadership helped maintain the army's cohesion, setting the stage for the surprise attack on Trenton on December 26, 1776, which revitalized the American cause.
