Product Details:

Rembrandt Peale's portrait of General Samuel Smith is a striking depiction of a significant military and political figure from early American history. General Smith, who played a crucial role in the War of 1812 and the American Revolution, is presented with a dignified and authoritative presence. As a young officer, Smith first gained recognition during the defense of Fort Mifflin on the Delaware River in 1777, where his valor and tactical acumen were crucial in delaying British forces and protecting Philadelphia. This action earned him a promotion to lieutenant colonel. Later, he distinguished himself in the Southern Campaign, particularly in the Battle of Cowpens in 1781, where his efforts contributed to a significant American victory.
