In 1861, Lincoln was departing from his town of Springfield for Washington to begin his presidency. In one, brief, poignant paragraph, Abraham Lincoln's farewell address in Springfield, Ill from 1861 is reproduced here on antiqued parchment. The document includes Lincoln's handwritten version, a typed version and explanatory notes.
