Product Details:

James Armistead Lafayette by John B. Martin captures Lafayette as an older man, commemorating his contributions to American independence. James Armistead Lafayette, born into slavery around 1748 in New Kent County, Virginia, played a crucial role as a spy during the American Revolution. Under the direction of the Marquis de Lafayette, he infiltrated British forces, providing intelligence that contributed significantly to the American victory at the Siege of Yorktown in 1781. Following the war, he was granted freedom and adopted the surname "Lafayette" in honor of the Marquis.
