Product Details:

Here, Andre! A Spy! by Howard Pyle depicts the capture of Major John Andre, a British Army officer who was apprehended by American forces during the Revolutionary War. Pyle's painting captures the dramatic moment on September 23, 1780, when American militiamen captured Major John Andre near Tarrytown, New York. Andre, who was carrying secret papers about the betrayal of West Point by Benedict Arnold, was disguised in civilian clothes. His arrest ultimately led to the exposure of Arnold’s treason. Andre was involved in a conspiracy with Benedict Arnold, an American general who defected to the British side.
