Product Details:
Domenick D’Andrea’s painting, Glorieta Pass – Action at Apache Canyon, is a vivid portrayal of a pivotal moment in the American Civil War's western theater. Commissioned by the National Guard Bureau as part of its Heritage Series, the artwork captures the Union cavalry charge during the Battle of Glorieta Pass on March 26, 1862. Often referred to as the "Gettysburg of the West," the Battle of Glorieta Pass was crucial in halting Confederate ambitions to control the western territories. D’Andrea’s painting specifically illustrates the First Colorado Infantry Regiment's charge through Apache Canyon, marking their first combat engagement. These soldiers, comprising Colorado Territory's townsmen, farmers, ranchers, and miners, played a significant role in securing the western U.S. for the Union.
