George Washington Crossing the Delaware River by Henry Mosler illustrates General George Washington’s surprise attack on Hessian forces in Trenton, New Jersey, on the night of December 25–26, 1776, during the American Revolutionary War. Washington and his Continental Army crossed the icy Delaware River under harsh winter conditions to stage a pivotal and daring attack that would reinvigorate the American cause.
