Product Details:
"General Wayne Endeavoring to Quell the Mutiny of the Pennsylvania Regiments at Morristown" by Howard Pyle depicts a tense moment during the Revolutionary War when soldiers of the Pennsylvania Line, stationed in Morristown, New Jersey, mutinied in January 1781 due to poor conditions, lack of pay, and inadequate supplies. The Pennsylvania Line Mutiny was one of the largest and most serious mutinies of the Continental Army. General "Mad" Anthony Wayne tried to mediate the situation with diplomacy and understanding rather than force. The soldiers, who felt betrayed by Congress' inability to provide back pay and adequate provisions, were determined to march to Philadelphia to demand redress of their grievances.
