Product Details:
The "Capture of Fort Ticonderoga" by John Steeple Davis illustrates the momentous event during the early stages of the American Revolutionary War when Ethan Allen, Benedict Arnold, and the Green Mountain Boys seized the strategically vital fort from British forces on May 10, 1775. The painting focuses on Ethan Allen and his men as they storm the fort. Allen, prominently depicted, is shown confronting the British officer in command, demanding the surrender of the fort "in the name of the Great Jehovah and the Continental Congress." Fort Ticonderoga was a key British stronghold located on Lake Champlain. Its capture provided the Continental Army with much-needed artillery and a strategic position controlling access to Canada and the Hudson River Valley. The surprise attack demonstrated the resolve and ingenuity of the Continental forces in the face of British dominance.
