Product Details:
Capture of Fort Donelson in Tennessee by Alonzo Chappel illustrates a significant moment from the Battle of Fort Donelson, fought from February 12–16, 1862, during the American Civil War. Fort Donelson was a Confederate stronghold on the Cumberland River, vital for controlling river access into the South. Union General Ulysses S. Grant led the assault, supported by naval gunboats under Flag Officer Andrew H. Foote. After several days of intense fighting, Confederate forces, commanded by Generals John B. Floyd, Gideon Pillow, and Simon B. Buckner, were overwhelmed. Buckner ultimately surrendered to Grant’s famous "Unconditional Surrender" demand on February 16, 1862 - marking a major Union victory.
