Boston Tea Party by W.D. Cooper depicts one of the most iconic events leading to the American Revolution. First appearing in Rev. James Murray's "An Impartial History of the War in America" (1780s) it is one of the earliest artistic representations of the Boston Tea Party. Cooper portrays a dramatic nighttime scene of the Boston Tea Party, where members of the Sons of Liberty, disguised as Mohawk Indians, are dumping chests of British tea into Boston Harbor in protest against the Tea Act of 1773. This act of defiance was in protest of the British Parliament's Tea Act, which imposed taxes on tea without colonial representation. The event escalated tensions between Britain and the American colonies, directly leading to the Revolutionary War.
