Product Details:
Benjamin Lincoln by Alonzo Chappel depicts Benjamin Lincoln, a key general in the American Revolutionary War, known for his leadership in the Southern theater and his role in the war’s final surrender. He commanded American forces during the Siege of Charleston (1780) but was forced to surrender to the British in one of the war’s worst American defeats. Despite this setback, he continued to serve and played a crucial role in coordinating with Nathanael Greene to counter British advances in the South. Most notably, at Yorktown (1781), Lincoln was given the honor of accepting General Cornwallis’s surrender on behalf of George Washington, marking the effective end of the war. His contributions were vital to the American victory, despite enduring hardships and setbacks along the way.
