Product Details:
Battle of Monmouth (Washington Rebukes Lee) 1778 by John Ward Dunsmore depicts the intense confrontation between General George Washington and General Charles Lee during the Battle of Monmouth on June 28, 1778. The battle was one of the largest in the Revolution and took place in New Jersey during a sweltering summer day. General Charles Lee, who was second-in-command, ordered a retreat in the face of the British forces, which caused disarray among the Continental Army. Washington, upon encountering the retreating troops and learning of Lee's actions, was incensed. According to historical accounts, Washington rode onto the battlefield and vehemently rebuked Lee for his failure to hold the line. This event became a defining moment for Washington’s leadership and contributed to bolstering his reputation as a decisive and exemplary leader.
