Product Details:

Battle of Cowpens – Conflict Between Cols. Washington and Tarleton by Alonzo Chappel illustrates a pivotal moment in the Battle of Cowpens (January 17, 1781) during the American Revolution. The scene focuses on the fierce cavalry duel between Colonel William Washington (cousin of George Washington) and British Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton. Colonel Washington, leading the American cavalry, is shown clashing swords with Tarleton, who commanded the British Legion. Other dragoons (mounted soldiers) are engaged in combat around them, adding to the action. The Battle of Cowpens (South Carolina, January 17, 1781) was a major victory for the American forces under General Daniel Morgan against Tarleton's British troops. Washington’s cavalry played a crucial role by flanking and pursuing the British, leading to Tarleton’s retreat. This battle was a turning point in the Southern Campaign, contributing to Cornwallis’s eventual surrender at Yorktown (1781).
