Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben by Charles Willson Peale is a portrait of the Prussian military officer who played a key role in training the Continental Army during the American Revolution. Baron von Steuben trained the Continental Army at Valley Forge (1778), introducing European military drills, discipline, and tactics. He wrote the "Blue Book," a training manual that shaped the U.S. Army's early structure, and played a crucial role in the Battle of Monmouth (1778) and later Yorktown (1781). Baron von Steuben also served as Inspector General of the Continental Army, ensuring professional discipline and organization.
